World Badminton Championship: PV Sindhu losses in semifinals

PV Sindhu
India's rising shuttler PV Sindhu settled for a bronze medal in the World Badminton Championships after losing to fourth seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand in the semifinals on Saturday.

Sindhu went down 10-21, 13-21 to Intanon at the Tianhe Indoor Stadium in Guangzhou, but she became the first Indian to win a medal in the women's singles.

This is only the third time that India will be bringing home a medal from the Worlds, following the bronze-medal winning feats of Prakash Padukone in Copenhagen in 1983 and the Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnapa doubles combine in 2011.

Sindhu had assured India of at least a bronze medal by beating former world No. 1 Shixian Wang 21-18, 21-17 in 55 minutes on Friday.
